Mayor of South Yorkshire visits Chesterfield Special Cylinders

Chesterfield Special Cylinders (CSC) was pleased to welcome the Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard, and Commodore Knowles on 7 October for a visit showcasing the company’s expertise, people and contribution to the UK defence supply chain.

The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the visitors to the CSC team, offer an insight into the company’s day-to-day operations and share its history, capabilities and ambitions for the future.

During the visit, discussions focused on CSC’s role within the manufacturing and engineering sectors, the opportunities and challenges facing the industry, and the importance of maintaining a strong and capable domestic supply chain to support the UK’s defence requirements.

South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said:

“When people talk about Britain’s industrial future, they’re increasingly talking about South Yorkshire. Manufacturing already supports more than 60,000 jobs across our communities and sits at the heart of our plans for the future. We’ve been making things, solving problems and changing the world through innovation for generations, and companies like CSC are proving we’ve still got plenty more to offer.

“Through advanced manufacturing, new technologies and developing the skills employers need, we’re building on the strengths that already make South Yorkshire one of the UK’s most important industrial centres. CSC is one of the companies helping to drive South Yorkshire forward – world-class engineering, creating good jobs and ensuring the UK has the capability it needs right here at home.”

The visit also provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the wider business landscape across Sheffield and the contribution local businesses make to the regional economy. Conversations explored the importance of collaboration between industry and civic leaders in supporting economic growth, developing skills and strengthening the region’s manufacturing capabilities.

The CSC team welcomed the opportunity to share its experience, highlight its capabilities and discuss the evolving demands of the markets it serves. Engagements such as this help strengthen relationships between businesses and local leadership, while showcasing the engineering expertise, innovation and commitment that underpin South Yorkshire’s industrial heritage and future.

CSC would like to thank Mayor Oliver Coppard and Commodore Knowles for taking the time to visit the company and meet with the team. The visit was a valuable opportunity to share the company’s story and highlight its contribution to the UK defence supply chain.

CSC looks forward to building on the discussions and continuing to play its part in supporting the region’s manufacturing sector and wider business community.
