Shift Manager
Working pattern: Monday – Thursday 06:00 – 16:15 (39 hours per week, excluding lunch break)
Pension: 4% EE contribution and 5% ER contribution
Holidays: 27 days inclusive of bank holidays – some will be required for shut down periods

Job description
The primary purpose of this role is to manage the personnel in the operational teams and ensure they are trained to operate their work stations to the required standard as set out by the business and comply with all rules to produce and overhaul products for customers safely and to the correct quality standards.
Responsibilities
This is not an exhaustive list, but is a general guide of the main duties of the role:
- To manage the throughput and output of quality products with matching documentation through the whole CSC operation via operational teams.
- Be an exemplary leader and operate with the company values in mind to enable cultural development.
- To manage and develop the teams and ensure the current rules and standard practices are followed and adhered to and any gaps closed in a controlled & planned manner.
- Assist the Operations Manager to develop improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost using modern manufacturing techniques.
- Manage operational direct reports and influence the wider operational teams to ensure compliance with all site rules and procedures via visible management and structured auditing.
- Develop the performance of direct reports through probationary reviews, performance reviews and regular interactions and developmental conversations.
- Support the training and development of the wider operational team to enable personal growth and operational efficiency improvement.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Manage the attendance of direct reports including overtime, holidays and sickness absence. Conduct return to work and welfare meetings and ensure attendance records are maintained through the site standard system.
- Where performance is below the required standard in any aspect of work of the teams, undertake appropriate action, including through the formal procedures where required.
- Communicate and manage the daily and weekly plans to the direct team to achieve the business goals for the day, week, month and quarter.
- Ensure all quality hold points are adhered to by operational teams
- Be first on the scene for events and take control and seek service function assistance where applicable, dependent upon the seriousness of the event
- Ensure required documentation for customer evidence and for CSC process control are captured in a timely manner
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement, and leads by example to ensure company goals are achieved and exceeded.

- Ensure all SOPs, RAs & COSHH are adhered to through audit and observations
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing processes throughout the facility.
- The rules and standards needed at each process/work station are developed by the process management. The Shift Manager must ensure that the rules are clear and available to their teams and that they too understand the principles and needs of each workstation
- Write a shift report covering SQDCP to ensure round the clock continuity and clarity of actions
- Understands and monitors the capacity and throughput rates through processes.
- Works with the Process Managers and the Production Planner to grow production capacity and ensure capacity headroom is understood and developed
- Works with the Production Planner to keep workflow and WIP up to date to ensure communication flowing to customers is the latest and accurate and that any deviations from standard throughput are understood and corrective actions developed.
- Develop recovery plans to ensure customer plans and deliveries are achieved
- Monitor and enforce shop floor data capture (SFDC) to enable correct cost capture for project control.
- Ensure all equipment and tooling being used is calibrated and fit to use
- Report all breakdowns to the maintenance team and develop recovery plans as necessary
- Ongoing monitoring and review of manpower planning and working practices to ensure capacity and flexibility is optimised.
- Monitor process adherence through observation and Gemba to ensure quality compliance
- Investigate non conformity in the department and assist in root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions with liaison of the process management expert.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing processes throughout the facility through regular dialogue with Process management to ensure any changes and developments are understood and communicated to the teams.
- Attend daily production and team meetings and be a key communicator from management to the operational teams to ensure there is a full understanding of status of work and priorities.
- Raise NCRs and near misses to ensure there is a learning culture for Quality and Safety.
- Complete actions from audits, investigations and meetings to assist in driving business change.
- Be involved in and own local operational improvements to bring about a step change in business performance and contribute ideas to continuous improvement programs.
- Ensure the 5’s’ standards and improvement programme is engaged with and that standards incrementally improve.
- Drive operations towards lean principles and constantly seek ways in which to reduce direct and indirect overhead costs.

Qualifications
- Engineering Qualification – NVQ level 3 or HNC/HND (Desirable)
