NDT Engineer Level 3
Working pattern: 37 hours per week; Monday to Thursday 07:45 – 16:15 & Friday 07:45 – 12:45.

Job description
● Be the business NDT Level III and thus process expert, understanding the customer requirements and ensuring all the work instructions are compliant to the needs of the relevant standards and the customer needs.
● Oversee the competence and adherence to standards of the NDT team to both PCN and ASNT requirements and develop strategies to ensure the organisation has sufficient current and future skills in the area of NDT to satisfy the customer demands.
● As well as ensuring base standards of the owned processes are clear the job owner is also expected to develop improvement strategies for their processes to support business growth via new products, lower cost or improving quality standards.
Responsibilities
This is not an exhaustive list, but is a general guide of the main duties of the role:
- Ensure the business has necessary and up-to-date documentation, including procedures and data cards for all NDT activities carried to ensure the manufacture and periodic retesting of cylinders within the product range of the business
- Translate customer technical needs into operational procedures and practices
- Ensure there is a robust training & assessment process in place for all NDT tasks
- Develop all inspection and NDT personnel to the required standard and through any external qualification needs as stipulated for PCN and ASNT
- Audit compliance to the standards and CSC internal procedures to ensure the trained personnel are carrying out activities correctly
- Be the exemplar for PCN and ASNT for the business
- Be a cylinder inspector to new manufacture and periodic testing standards
- Work with contracted Level III NDT consultants to develop and maintain required procedures in additional NDT techniques.
- Own the reference standard process and ensure the business has the correct standards for market and customer needs
- Manage and develop the NDT technicians on site and mentor the NDT technicians in the IM team
- Manage the attendance of direct reports including sickness absence and conducting return to work and welfare meetings and ensure attendance records are maintained through the site standard system.
- Manage overtime and holidays of direct reports in collaboration with Production Manager/Production Planner to ensure that operational requirements are met.
- Support production management by ensuring that direct reports are available and trained as required for work that is planned.
- Where performance is below the required standard in any aspect of work of the teams, undertake appropriate action, including through the formal disciplinary procedures where required.
- Ensure that direct reports and others carrying out inspection have the relevant training and qualifications required for inspection methods; maintaining a matrix of skills required and ensuring any re-certification is arranged promptly to prevent non-compliance.
- Be responsible for the visual acuity tests of employees; carrying out the tests once qualified to do so or arranging with third parties alongside HR.
Experience
- Level 3 in UT (Forgings) & MPI PCN
- Minimum 10 years experience in the use of NDT in safety critical environments
- Detailed knowledge of a wide variety of inspection techniques
- Experience on making controlled change & sustaining
- Level 3 in UT (Forgings) & MPI ASNT (Desirable)
- Level 2 in any other techniques e.g. Dye Pen, Visual (Desirable)
- Relevant qualifications in welding and/or inspection of welding (Desirable)
- Worked and operated in an aerospace or defence environment for >5 years (Desirable)
